From Audio Lyrics to Video Subtitles
LRC files are designed for audio playback, where each lyric line appears at its timestamp and persists until the next line begins. When you need those same lyrics as video subtitles, ASS provides styling, positioning, and visual effects that LRC cannot offer. This converter reads LRC timestamp tags, converts minute-second timing to ASS centisecond format, generates a complete ASS script with default styles, and outputs Dialogue lines ready for Aegisub editing or video embedding.

LRC vs ASS Technical Specifications
LRC
LRC is a lyrics file format where each line of text is prefixed with a timestamp tag in [mm:ss.xx] or [mm:ss.xxx] format. LRC files contain optional metadata tags for title ([ti:]), artist ([ar:]), album ([al:]), and offset ([offset:]). LRC lines have start timestamps but no end timestamps; each line persists until the next begins.
ASS
ASS (Advanced SubStation Alpha v4+) is a styled subtitle format with [Script Info], [V4+ Styles], and [Events] sections. Dialogue lines carry Start and End times in centisecond format, style references, and text content. ASS supports fonts, colors, outlines, shadows, positioning, and karaoke effects.
Format Differences
Conversion Troubleshooting & Gotchas
Practical solutions for player compatibility, character encoding, and timing synchronization
Subtitle timing drifts or appears out of sync on media players
Video files frequently differ in framerate (e.g., 23.976 fps vs 25 fps). If the timing drifts steadily, use our Subtitle Sync tool to adjust the global offset or framerate stretch.
Characters appear as garbled symbols or question marks (Mojibake)
Legacy files saved in Windows-1252, Shift-JIS, or GBK may render incorrectly. Our exporter standardizes output to clean UTF-8. Use our Subtitle Encoding Converter if the source file is corrupted.
Overlapping captions when multiple speakers talk simultaneously
Different formats handle overlapping dialogue differently. If your target player cannot render stacked cues cleanly, open the file in our Subtitle Editor to adjust individual cue timings.
Video editing software (Premiere, DaVinci, Final Cut) rejects the file
Professional NLE software enforces strict syntax rules. Our converter eliminates malformed line breaks and non-standard tags, producing clean, standardized files.

How It Works
- 1
Upload your .lrc file by dragging it or browsing.
- 2
The parser reads timestamped lyric lines and ignores LRC metadata tags.
- 3
Each lyric line timestamp [mm:ss.xx] is converted to ASS time format (H:MM:SS.cc).
- 4
End times are calculated from the next line start timestamp.
- 5
The [Script Info] section is generated with the default script metadata.
- 6
A [V4+ Styles] section is created with a Default style for lyric display.
- 7
Each lyric line becomes an ASS Dialogue line and the complete script is encoded as UTF-8.

Frequently Asked Questions
LRC uses [mm:ss.xx] format (minutes:seconds.centiseconds). ASS uses H:MM:SS.cc format. The converter extracts minutes and seconds from LRC tags and maps them to the ASS time format. For example, [01:30.50] in LRC becomes 0:01:30.50 in ASS.
No. Title, artist, album, and offset metadata tags are ignored. The generated ASS uses the converter's standard script metadata.
Yes, completely free with no sign-up, no watermarks, and files up to 50 MB each. All processing happens in your browser.
LRC lines have only start timestamps with no explicit end time. The converter calculates each line end time as the start time of the next line. The last line gets a default duration of 3 seconds since there is no subsequent timestamp.
Yes. The ASS output opens in Aegisub where you can add karaoke timing tags ({\k}, {\kf}) for syllable-by-syllable highlight effects. This is useful for creating karaoke videos from LRC lyrics.
Enhanced LRC word-level timestamps are not converted to ASS karaoke tags and may remain in the exported text. Strip them from the LRC first, then add karaoke timing in Aegisub if you need syllable-level highlighting.
